A chest of drawers named Gertrude. This piece came as a result of examining historical case pieces and comparing them to contemporary pieces. The primary thing I noticed is how historically, case pieces always seemed to be designed in three parts: the base, the top, and the actual case carcass. Now, in many contemporary pieces, designers try to minimize the amount of lines. In an attempt to bring back some of that language in a more contemporary style, I brought back those three elements and highlighted them through a floating motif. The long pulls made of bright maple were also a reference to the brass hardware that adorned historic pieces like jewelry.
